Pay-per-click (PPC) also known as cost per click (CPC), is a model for internet advertising and used for directing website traffic. A publisher who is usually the website owner is paid by the advertiser when an advertisement is clicked. Pay-per-click is associated with Microsoft Bing Ads and Google AdWords which are considered to be the first-tier search engines. Search engine advertisers usually bid on keywords and phrases that are market relevant. Various content sites use a different mode- they charge a fixed price per click and not a bidding system. PPC advertisements, typically known as "banner" ads, are generally seen on content related web sites. Twitter and Facebook have pay per click form of advertisement as one major advertising model. PPC ads will get displayed when a query keyword matches with the keyword list of the advertiser and when relevant content is there on a website. These types of advertisement are also known as sponsored ads or sponsored links and appear anywhere that a web developer wants to place it on a content site.
