Cloud Computing

Cloud Computing

One of the terms that have sourced much attention with the evolvement of newer technologies of web hosting parameters is none other but cloud computing. Today, this method has a considerable influence in the realms of both business and social products.

Since this is a much technical jargon, most people face a justified difficulty in figuring out the true meaning as well as the credibility of cloud computing from the name itself. It is basically a generic terminology, which is related to the likes of the associated functions of computation, data access, software configuration, and storage services that make vital contributions in the delivery of IT services based on Internet protocols. The system also typically involves the drive of dynamically scalable virtual resources to the users.

Description and Benefits
Cloud computing can be systematically categorized under 3 broad heads: Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS), and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS). The name of cloud computing is believed to have drawn a symbolic reference to Internet as a ‘cloud’. The efficacy of the whole process lies in that the end-user do not need to possess any necessary knowledge or management of the physical location as also the configuration of the system that delivers the required services.

The pros of cloud computing are further pointed as below:

Agility:

The system aims to provide the users with an ability to rapidly allocate the technological infrastructure resources.

Application Programming Interface: This works in the same manner as an user interface facilitates the interaction of computers and humans.

Cost:

The device and location independence of the system has allowed cloud computing to allow its users to experience a much cheap and affordable solution.

Scalability:

It facilitates provisioning of resources on a real time basis.

Security:

This is much better than any other traditional procedures and facilities in data centralisation procedures.

Maintenance:

As it is not required to be conformed to the individual computers, the procedures of cloud computing is easier to maintain and/or improve.

History of Cloud computing
Initially associated to represent telephone network, cloud computing is now more linked with the computer network diagrams. It evolved side by side along with the universal adoption of service oriented architecture, utility computing, and virtualisation. The source of this system dates back to the year of 1960 when John McCarthy opined that computation can be a tool of public utility some day. Later on in the 1966, The Challenge of the Computer Utility as authored by Douglas Parkhill, paves an inspiration for all the modern day techniques involved in cloud computing. It was during 1997 that Ramnath Chellappa first used the term in a scholarly discussion. After the IT bubble that consisted the years covering 1995-2000, Amazon played a pivotal role in the development of cloud computing through modernizing their data centres. It is only in the recent past that the IT giants like Google or IBM along with many other universities came forward to initiate researching projects on cloud computing.
